the supine position for 10 minutes. The test consisted of 2 Introduction The head-up tilt test (HUTT) is a useful diagnostic tool for evaluating suspected neurocardiogenic syncope. Pharmacologic provocation with isoproterenol, adenosine, or nitroglycerin (NTG) is frequently used to facilitate the induction of syncope during HUTT. Studies have reported the occurrence of ventricular arrhythmias during HUTT, especially with high-dose isoprenaline infusion in patients with structural heart disease.

Frequency domain assessment of the coupling strength between ventricular repolarization duration and heart period during graded head-up tilt

We test the hypothesis that the degree of correlation between ventricular repolarization duration (VRD) and heart period (HP) carries information on cardiac autonomic regulation. The degree of correlation was assessed in the frequency domain using squared coherence function during an experimental protocol known to gradually induce a shift of sympathovagal balance toward sympathetic predominance...

Autonomic modulation of the atrial cycle length by the head up tilt test: non-invasive evaluation in patients with chronic atrial fibrillation.

OBJECTIVE To determine the effects of upright posture compared with supine position on the dominant atrial cycle length (DACL) in patients with chronic atrial fibrillation. DESIGN The power/frequency spectrum of QRST suppressed lead V1 ECG was studied in 14 patients in the supine position and during the head up tilt table test. The DACL changes were compared with changes in heart rate and blo...

Nitrate stimulated tilt table testing: a review of the literature.

In clinical practice, upright tilt testing is frequently used to determine the etiology of syncope by trying to induce vasovagal reactions. The importance of the test is underscored by the fact that before the introduction of the test in 1986 by Kenny et al.,1 often expensive cardiac examinations were performed without resulting in a clear diagnosis. The more frequent use of the “passive” unmed...

Head-up tilt test in complicated neurocardiogenic syncope in children.

To confirm the usefulness of head-up tilt test (HUT) in neurocardiogenic syncope (NCS) with complicating clinical features, retrospective analysis were done on 12 selected children. The age at onset was 12.7 +/- 1.9 (mean +/- SD) years. Associated clinical features were postoperative congenital heart disease (PO CHD) in 3, coexistent arrhythmia in 8 (persistent ventricular arrhythmia during exe...

Use of the Trendelenburg Position in the Porcine Model Improves Carotid Flow During Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

BACKGROUND Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is now widely used as a treatment for ventricular fibrillation, though numerous studies have shown the outcome of standard CPR to be dismal. Alternative methods of CPR, including interposed abdominal compression, constant aortic occlusion, and the use of intrathoracic pressure regulator, have been shown to increase cardiac output and affect the mor...
